Far Eastern Treats!
A hot favourite while staying in Hong Kong is the quaint Passion Café where one can indulge in sweet chocolate creations like this. They were almost too pretty to eat! Consequently we had to stick to salads and sandwiches (I try to avoid sugar…). This time we went for slightly more than two weeks and flew to Singapore first to catch up with old friends we hadn’t seen for ages. In the meantime their two sons had almost grown up and Singapore was preparing for its 50th Anniversary of Independence as a vibrant and successful city state. The famous Marina Bay Sands had caught our attention so we splashed out. Pity it was running at full capacity as it was a tad too busy for our taste - especially after a hectic year when one is in need of some peace… Next stop was Bangkok for a week. We’ve been to Thailand many times - mainly to visit the factory which had produced my fashion jewellery since 1998 and December/January are the coolest months. Our hotel had a good restaurant and our favourite place for a tasty and memorable evening meal was nearby Taling Pling. The crispy fish is out of this world! It was to be my last time at the factory. Then it was off to Hong Kong. I was keen to show my partner around - both of us love the Far East and I went to a jewellery fair many years ago and liked it very much. Only now it was much much colder. Christmas in Hong Kong is still very enjoyable but mega busy as a lot of home-helpers from the Philippines use their few days off for picnicing wherever they find a spot. We walked the place flat and also took the ferry to Hong Kong Island and some rather rattly old trams which was great fun and even buses to see more of this interesting city. The Peninsula and Oriental hotels are still worth popping in - for their flair and food alike. And with Marks & Spencer’s food hall just across the road from our hotel in the heart of Hong Kong, we were literally home away from home. English Cheddar plus gingerbread and Christmas pudding - here we come!
