Fascinating Far East! Ni hao!
Several years ago a customer got in touch with me as she loved my chic fashion jewellery and suggested I design a collection for her for China.
My assistant Ursula was ecstatic! After the collection had been completed my travel-happy partner and I accepted her invitation and flew to Beijing for the launch.
THE LONDON COLLECTION had its glittering premiere in Chinese retail. On our launch day…
…we were greeted by many photographers and a Chinese TV film crew. I gave some interviews for the popular magazines LADY and Cosmopolitan. It was quite an event!
Among the honoured guests were wives of several ambassadors and the upper echelons, also many fashion-forward High Society Ladies. I gave a speech and helped some of the jewellery fans to combine various pieces in pretty European styles.
Our fun audience loved the day and we enjoyed the exotic flair and their jewellery enthusiasm
Luckily we had a bit of spare time so our first stop was of course The Forbidden City!
At that time I was reading an interesting biography about the controversial Chinese Empress Tsu-Hsi (also known as Cixi - The Empress of the West).
and to my great delight there was a fabulous exhibition showing the Jewels of Empresses and Concubines. Perfect timing!
Lady in Red….
Unfortunately, time was too short to see the famous Great Wall of China - or the Summer Palace. Well, we'll just have to go back!
I can highly recommend the Far Eastern Cuisine - light and delicious:
My jacket was embroided with golden dragons and got lots of attention like the fashion jewellery set I wore in delicate Chinese Style. I love jackets - well, I actually collect them (!) and kept an eye open for a pretty souvenir from this unique trip.
A very large red fan found its way into my luggage and then back home to London. It was on display in our living-room for a long time.
And more travels…
I’d already visited a jewellery exhibition in Hong Kong a few years prior and was keen to show my partner around this interesting mega-city.
Oops - no, that’s not him - although we share Buzz Lightyear’s fun motto: “To Infinity and Beyond”!
And yes, I would travel with my partner to the end of the world - by bike, plane, car, ship
- ANYTIME ANYWHERE!
We took the bus to the southern part of Hong Kong Island and visited these temples in Stanley.
Pretty in Pink - East meets West
CHE CHE! Looking forward to my return to China! Soon…
